Biopsy results are in!

So, I have not updated in quite a while. Benjamin had his first biopsy on Friday, April 27. Abby was supposed to have her PDA closure that day as well. But, due to a sinus infection, they cancelled her. Even though I had asked 3 nurses before the day of the surgery, and they all said it was fine, we got there and anesthesia did not feel comfortable and neither did the cardiologist. So, we are rescheduled for May 25th for her. Here's hoping that she stays healthy for that!

Back to Ben's biopsy. So, we had that on April 27th. I was a nervous wreck, and exhausted. The night before, he had to stop his solids at midnight. No biggie there since he eats dinner at 6. Then I had to give him his midnight meds. Try to get back to sleep. Wake up at 2 am to nurse him. Try to get back to sleep and wake up at 4 am to give him pedialyte, and then up for the day. We left by 5 am to get to the hospital by 6:30. His surgery time was set for 7:30. He was mostly a champ about not being able to eat anything, when he usually eats at 6 am and again at 8. He started getting really fussy at about 7:15. Luckily they took him back right after that. I was very nervous, and Joe and I were dealing with a wound up, overtired Abby as well. (Remember, she was supposed to have surgery too. :/) We went to eat breakfast, and by the time that we got back upstairs, they said the dr had come in to say he was done. I got to see Ben shortly after that. And then maybe 10 min later they moved him to a short term stay room. He stayed there for a few hours and we were able to leave by about 3 pm. Fun times in rush hour :/ They told us they would follow up with the results Monday 4/30. Joe and I also had our blood drawn that day for genetic testing to make sure this isn't something the girls might have to deal with down the road too. If anything comes back looking funny, the girls will get blood drawn as well.

So, 4/30, I get the call we had been waiting for. It's our APN. She called to tell us his biopsy came back great! NO REJECTION! We are so, so relieved! Also, his meds that he gets at midnight, they are moving to 10 pm. He was getting 2 meds (Magnesia and Propranolol) every 6 hours. Instead, they bumped the doses up slightly and made them every 8 hours. So, we can all get more sleep now. 10 PM I can deal with. (Obviously, since I am writing this at 9:52 :P)

So, needless to say, we are so glad to be over that hurdle! We are now at appointments every month. With also going to get labs in New Lenox maybe every 2 weeks. Which, is fine since New Lenox is only 20-25 min away, as opposed to an hour and a half sometimes to get to Chicago. Also, we are going to the transplant family picnic this Sunday. I can't wait to see if some of our favorite nurses and doctors are there. I can't wait to show Ben off to them! So, that is my newest update. Thank you for all your continued thoughts and prayers!
